{dan & cynthia: wedding...}

Halloween has always been my favourite holiday of the year!

When I was a little girl, my Mom and I would decorate our house with candles and spider webs and my Mom would help me put together a fantastic costume that was comfortable enough to endure for the entire day while still being warm enough to last through the brisk October nights that we often had in Ontario.

My friends and I would head out with a pillow case in hand and return home with chilled fingers and an excessive belly ache from too much snacking along the way! Unlike the country kids who had a kilometer between each house, I lived in a townhouse division which meant that we always got a far better return on our investment!!!

One year when I was in high school, we lived in this beautiful heritage home in the south end of London; an area of town that served as the perfect backdrop for my favourite spooky holiday! My Mom dressed up like a scarecrow, put a carved pumpkin on her head and sat perfectly still on our front porch while our cat’s recent litter of six week old black kittens sat perfectly perched on our stairwell just inside our door. My Mom placed our bowl of candy on her lap and waited patiently for the neighborhood kids to come and help themselves. As the night went on, I proceeded to spend hours being highly entertained as my Mother very strategically “made her move” depending on whether it was a young excited Halloween rookie or an over ambitious teenager hoping to run off with all the goods! It was, by far, one of my favourite Halloween memories!

This past Halloween was my first time spending it away from the house and the dressed up munchkins that roamed the streets. This year, I spent it photographing Dan and Cynthia’s gorgeously masked wedding in Rockland. As their guests began to fill the reception hall sporting their elaborately decorated Venetian masks, the room equally began to fill with a sense of mystery and magic that only Dan and Cynthia could create. From the candy bar of delicious treats to Grandpa wearing his proudest face…this too, has gone down as one of my favourite Halloween memories…

Creative problem solving for a slight costume malfunction!!

I totally wish that it was socially acceptable to wear these every day!!!

Shake it!!!!
